• The University of Mines is Russia’s oldest
    higher education school devoted
    to engineering. It was founded
    on October 21 OS (November 1 NS) 1773
    by Empress Catherine II. Thus the brainchild
    of Peter the Great and Mikhail Lomonosov
    to train Russian specialists
    for mining was materialized.

The University held a meeting of the Programme Committee for preparation of the annual scientific conference of the Russian-German Resource Forum. It will be held in the University in October this year and it will gather the representatives of the scientific and industrial societies of both countries.

A group of graduate students of the Mining University had a field trip hosted by Freiberg Mining Academy (Germany). During the visit the University representatives went to a number of leading national companies in core industry and informed themselves about the research done by their German colleagues.

Delegation of the Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland) headed by President Anneli Pauli paid a visit to the Mining University. Perspectives for deeper collaboration have been discussed during the meeting with Rector Vladimir Litvinenko.

The solemn meeting devoted to the graduation of the 239-th class of engineers was held in the Mining University, the oldest technical University in Russia. This year 3907 students became the owners of the Diplomas of Higher Education.

The Mining University is holding the second meeting of the organizing committee of the XVIII International Coal Preparation Congress. In order to discuss the details of arranging the status event in 2016, the Presidents of the national coal associations from 14 countries gathered in the Mining University.

The delegation of the Mining University took part in Russian-Chinese forum of high technologies, in Moscow. Guests from Asia showed great interest in the research work of the University’s scientists and offered to sign a number of cooperation agreements.

The Mining University held the last Open Day this year, 260 people came for a visit. Among the guests were the applicants and their parents from the furthest corners of Russia including Vladivostok.

The Rector of the Mining University Vladimir Litvinenko took part in St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Following the event, among others, he signed a cooperation agreement with “Rosneft”.
